Jakob Chychrun scored two goals for the Arizona Coyotes who defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Monday night. It was the ideal return from the all-star break for the Coyotes, who improved to 17-28-6 on the season.
The first period saw no scoring, but the second period featured a goal from each squad. Minnesota star left winger Kirill Kaprizov scored early in the second to give the Wild a 1-0 lead. It was the 28th goal of the season for Kaprizov.
Jakob Chychrun would provide a response to Kaprizov with a power play goal about halfway through the period. Chychrun’s sixth goal of the season would set the stage for the thrilling third period.
Jonas Brodin scored just his second goal of the season to give Minnesota a 2-1 lead early in the third period. However, the Coyotes would rally in front of their fans at Mullett Arena.
Chychrun added his second tally of the game to tie the game around the midpoint of the third, and just a few minutes later Jack McBain scored what would be the game winner for the Coyotes. McBain’s goal was his seventh of the season, matching Chychrun’s season total.
Arizona goaltender Karel Vejmelka turned in a phenomenal performance, stopping 33 of 35 Minnesota shots. On the other end of the ice, Marc-André Fleury showed that he can still have a great game in net as well. The 38-year-old made 33 saves on 36 shots.
The Coyotes will travel to the Windy City to take on the Blackhawks on Friday night, while the Wild will take a trip to Big D to do battle with the Stars on Wednesday night.
