Chicago White Sox catcher Seby Zavala’s two-run home run in the sixth inning proved to be the difference maker in the South Siders 4-1 spring training victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday afternoon. It was the second straight win in spring training for the White Sox after they had dropped their first two.
The beginning of the game was familiar for the White Sox, as they went down 1-0 in the first inning on an RBI double play. It marked the fourth straight game that Chicago had not scored the first run of the ballgame.
Luis Robert would provide a response in the third inning, hitting a double that scored Tim Anderson to tie the game. 1-1 remained the score up until the top of the sixth, when Seby Zavala hit a two-run homer to give the White Sox a 3-1 lead. The Pale Hose would add one more run on a Sebastian Rivero bunt single in the eighth to reach the final score.
The White Sox pitching staff did a fantastic job of shutting down the D-Backs offense. Jake Diekman, Lane Ramsey and J.B. Olson each recorded two strikeouts for Chicago. Arizona starter Zach Davies got three strikeouts in two innings of work.
The White Sox will look to win their third straight game against the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday, while the Diamondbacks will face-off play the San Francisco Giants on the same day.
