The Dallas Stars came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Arizona Coyotes 4-2 on Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center. The win got the Stars to 77 points on the season, still on top of the Central Division.
On an eventful day for the Coyotes which saw them trade away Jakob Chychrun and Shayne Gostisbehere, Arizona got off to a hot start in Big D. Barrett Hayton scored his 10th goal of the season midway through the first period, then Clayton Keller followed up with his 25th tally on the power play. The score was surprisingly 2-0 Coyotes, but the Stars would gain some momentum late in the period.
Roope Hintz netted his 26th goal of the season late in the first to cut the Arizona lead in half heading into the second period. Early in the second, Tyler Seguin would keep the momentum going for Dallas. His 16th goal of the season came on the power play, and the score remained tied at two heading into the third period.
The final frame would be where the Stars would stomp their foot on the gas pedal and claim the victory. Miro Heiskanen scored his eighth goal of the season to give Dallas a 3-2 lead, and Seguin added his second of the night while shorthanded late in the period. The Stars had completed the comeback.
Looking at the stats, it’s shocking that the game was a close one. The Stars outshot the Coyotes 41-20, and they had the advantage in faceoffs 34-19. Despite the Stars playing well throughout the contest, the Coyotes made it difficult for Dallas, making the Central Division’s best earn their victory.
The Stars next game is on Thursday night in Chicago against the Blackhawks, and the Coyotes next game is Friday night in Tempe against the Carolina Hurricanes.
